Of course this demonstrates "unfairness," in Duncan's view, although he affects to not believe that "overt discrimination" is behind the statistics, compiled by the Dept. of Ed's Civil Rights office.A great op-ed by the Wall Street Journal Editorial Board's Jason L. Riley talks about how unfair it is that studies like this ignore the needs of the many African-American kids who want to get a good education. When the Dept. of Education pushes schools to go easy on misbehaving black kids, the first people to suffer will be other black kids sitting next to them in class.
Coddling disruptive students exactly parallels the Left's insistence on treating criminals not as predators that should be separated from the population they prey upon but as victims who deserve to be put back on the street -- where they proceed to make life unlivable for their neighbors and family in the same way that unruly kids ruin their schoolmates' education.
But outside of the WSJ and the Conservative online shadow media, you rarely hear this kind of argument. The Ed. Dept. statistics and Duncan's trumpeting them as though they demonstrate some terrible injustice faced by ordinary African-American kids (as opposed to the predators among them), were presented matter-of-factly by the mainstream media without question.
In fact the really infuriating thing about all of these Liberal announcements is how utterly laughable they are and yet how deadly serious they are handled in the media and by the Left wing administrators and executives running things. It's like an unending Saturday Night Live skit being presented as Masterpiece Theater.
